Dear Friends,

My name is José López from Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

As you know, in a United Nations (UN) endorsed Puerto Rico decolonization process, all political prisoners would have to be released first. The UN has already called for the United States (US) to immediately release the Puerto Rico political prisoners (June 20, 2011 resolution concerning Puerto Rico decolonization).

The United Nations' Decolonization Committee is in its third decade of trying to eradicate colonialism in the world. In that effort, it holds a hearing every year around June (the month New York City holds its Puerto Rican Day Parade) to discuss Puerto Rico's colonial situation.

It would be helpful if in next year's discussion there could be a full house in the hearing room with people interested in the decolonization of Puerto Rico. This hearing is not well publicized since some people would like to maintain the status quo forever.

Could NBHRN spread the word out to its people so that those interested in attending the June 2012 hearing could do so? This would be yet another way to put pressure on the US Government to release our heroes! The exact date has not yet been determined by the UN.

Thank you for your time in this matter!

Sincerely,

José M. López Sierra

Hi Amaka,

Thanks for reaching out! I'd love to put you in touch with other SLAM folks.

Please email me at mizsubways (at) gmail.com

A number of Slamistas have coordinated different events reflecting on SLAM. The blog project has been mainly my effort to document these and do some new interviews.

Looking forward to getting in touch,

Hi Lauren,

Thanks so much for this message! I forwarded it to everyone I know from SLAM and some current student activists who identify with SLAM (we are not around as a group anymore). Would you like me to remove your comment, because it has your phone number in it?

Thanks again so much for reaching out.

Hi There,

You were reccomended to me by my radical activist filmmaker friend Courtney.

I am hoping to connect with a group of SLAM members (anywhere from 5-15) who might be interested in having a phone conference with students living in Iraq about what constitutes meaningful political and social change as it applies to Education.

I am working with a student organizer in Iraq who has organized 15 English speaking Iraqi students who are interested in connecting and I would like to talk with someone interested in helping me organize the American students.

We are aiming to have the conversation in the end of April or early in May, and a few logistics have to be worked out. Please contact me asap. I would love to work with you to make this possible.

Yours,
In Action,

Lauren Larken
